Call centres & open-plan offices
Phone booths for call centres and open-plan offices
In a contact centre or open-plan office, most of the noise is people talking: on headsets, in quick discussions at the desk, on video calls. Some of those conversations should not be overheard at all, for example a team lead taking an escalated customer call, a coaching session after a call review or a conversation with HR. A phone booth or small meeting pod gives them a closed space right on the floor.
To be clear about the limits: a booth helps with the conversations you move into it. It does not lower the general noise level or the reverberation of the room. If the whole floor is too loud, that needs room acoustics such as ceiling and wall absorbers or desk screens, planned by an acoustician. This site sells booths and meeting pods.

Who this is for
- Contact centres and customer service teams with confidential or escalated calls.
- Sales and inside-sales teams that spend much of the day on the phone.
- Open-plan offices where video calls and one-to-ones keep interrupting focused work.
- Team leads, HR and works councils who need a place for private conversations on the floor.
Which conversations belong in a booth
A booth is not meant to replace every agent's desk. Day-to-day calls on headsets stay at the workstation. The booth is for the conversations that are sensitive, longer or louder than the floor can absorb.
- Escalated customer calls and calls that involve personal or payment data.
- Coaching and feedback after call reviews, which should not happen in front of the team.
- HR conversations, sick-leave talks and one-to-ones when every meeting room is booked.
- Video calls with customers or other sites that would otherwise disturb the open floor.
- Short team huddles that do not need a full meeting room.

Installation, IT and safety
- IT: Berlin has a socket, USB-A, USB-C and Ethernet; Oslo and Paris have power, USB and data at the table. Tokyo's connection set is confirmed in the quote. Headsets and softphones work as at the desk.
- Power: the pods plug into a normal wall socket; no hardwired connection is needed. Plan the position close to a socket so no cable crosses a walkway.
- Ventilation: sensor-controlled fans and sound-trapped air channels supply fresh air while the door is closed. Fan and connection details per model are listed in the technical specifications.
- Fire safety: material classes under EN 13501-1 are MDF B-s2,d0, fabric and mineral wool A2-s1,d0, plus laminated safety glass. The fire class documentation ships with each unit.
- Permits and escape routes: pods are usually treated as movable furniture rather than construction, but local rules apply. Agree the position with whoever is responsible for fire safety in the building: a pod must not block escape routes or sprinkler coverage.
- Delivery and assembly: panels arrive flat-packed and pass standard 90 cm doorways. A typical unit is assembled on site in about 90 minutes without building work. Check stairs and lifts against the dimensions overview.
- Lead time and regions: 2–4 weeks across the EU for standard models; larger formats are confirmed per project. Delivery covers the EU27 and EFTA; the UK via a local partner, confirmed per project.
- Warranty: 3 years on structure and electronics.
- Data protection: a closed booth helps keep calls from being overheard. It is one measure within your data protection concept, not a replacement for it.
What to expect acoustically
QAkustik office pods provide 35 dB (Rw) ±3 dB sound insulation. Rw is the weighted sound reduction index, so compare it with Rw values from other suppliers. Test reports are available.
Test reports are available. An on-site measurement dated 22 April 2025 of a QAkustik cabin installed in a meeting room gave DnT,w 36 and 38 dB, DnT,A 34 and 35 dB, depending on the direction. The full context is in the buying guide.
In everyday terms: a normal speaking voice inside the pod is strongly reduced outside, but no booth is soundproof. A raised voice, laughter or music will still be noticeable.
How to plan the number and position of booths
- Count the conversations, not the staff: how many confidential calls, coaching sessions and one-to-ones happen on a typical day?
- Put booths where they are reached in a few steps, ideally at the edge of the team area and not in the main walkway.
- Start with a mix of one-person booths and one pod for two, then add based on use.
- If the whole floor is too loud, plan room acoustics separately; booths alone will not fix reverberation.
- Check the delivery route with the dimensions overview, then send us your city, quantities and target month.
Frequently asked questions
Do phone booths reduce the overall noise in a call centre?
Only for the conversations that move into them. Booths do not reduce reverberation or the general noise from agents on headsets. That needs room acoustics such as ceiling absorbers and desk screens. Booths are the right tool for confidential, long or loud conversations.
Which booth suits coaching and feedback?
Q Pod Oslo, from €4,560. It has two facing seats and a table, which suits a conversation between a team lead and an agent.
Is a booth comfortable for longer calls?
For longer sessions choose Q Pod Berlin (from €3,600): it fits an office chair and has a desk surface. The ventilation runs with sensor-controlled fans and sound-trapped air channels while the door is closed.
How private is a call in the booth?
QAkustik office pods provide 35 dB (Rw) ±3 dB sound insulation, and a field measurement of a cabin in a meeting room gave DnT,A values of 34–35 dB. A normal voice inside is strongly reduced outside, but a raised voice can still be heard. See the buying guide.
Can we install booths during operations?
The panels arrive flat-packed and a typical unit is assembled in about 90 minutes without building work. Tell us your preferred installation window, for example outside peak hours.
What does a phone booth for an open-plan office cost?
Starting prices are €2,750 for Tokyo, €3,600 for Berlin, €4,560 for Oslo and €6,640 for Paris. Delivery, installation and applicable taxes are listed separately in the quote.
